Deciding what medication to use for a specific condition is also a very important decision. There are many different types or families of medications. For example, for pain caused by inflammation a steroid medication or non-steroid medication (NSAID) is appropriate. Tramadol is made by Ortho-McNeil and is an excellent pain medication commonly called Ultracet or Ultram. Ultram is a non-narcotic central acting analgesic and Ultracet has both the analgesic effect of Ultram combined with Acetaminophen. It is believed that even with a lower dose of the analgesic, the synergistic effect of the acetaminophen has excellent benefits in controlling pain. There are side-effects so you should talk to your doctor or see Dr. Boer.
Vicodin and Vicodin ES are made by Abbott and are excellent pain medications commonly called Hydrocodone. Vicodin is an opiod analgesic and is combined with Acetaminophen. It is believed that even with a lower dose of the analgesic, the synergistic effect of the acetaminophen in combination with the opiod has excellent benefits in controlling pain.
